5 Famous UFC Fighters Who’ve Fought in Boston

Boston’s sports history was about the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and Bruins. But let’s not forget that Beantown has hosted some epic UFC throwdowns over the years. From legends of the Octagon to rising stars, here’s a rundown of five famous UFC fighters who’ve fought in Boston to packed crowds at TD Garden.

Max Holloway – The Blessed Express

Max Holloway is the featherweight king with a killer instinct and a heart of gold. As a newer-to-the-Octagon youngster, he brought his A-game to Boston in 2013 when he faced future Champ Champ, Conor McGregor. Though the match didn’t end in his favor, Holloway went on to defend his legacy against many UFC notables and light up the Octagon with his never-say-die attitude, making him one of the most beloved fighters in the game.

Conor McGregor – The Notorious One

You can’t talk about UFC without mentioning the Irish superstar, Conor McGregor. This dude is like the Tom Brady of MMA – you either love or hate him. But one thing’s sure: when McGregor fought Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston, it was pure electricity. He dominated the fight and finished it with a TKO in the second round. The crowd went bananas, and McGregor’s victory parade led him straight to a title shot.

Dominick Cruz – The Comeback King

Dominick Cruz is known for his insane footwork and being a tactical genius in the Octagon. After a string of brutal injuries, Cruz made a comeback that would’ve made Rocky proud. He faced off against T.J. Dillashaw at UFC Fight Night 81 in Boston for the Bantamweight Championship. Cruz showed the world he still had it, reclaiming the title in a razor-thin split decision. The TD Garden was on its feet!

Stipe Miocic – The Firefighter Who Knocks Out Fires and Opponents

Stipe Miocic is the kind of guy you want with you in a bar fight. He’s a part-time firefighter and a full-time badass. It was a clash of titans when he squared off against Francis Ngannou at UFC 220 in Boston. Miocic put on a wrestling clinic and defended his heavyweight title. His respect for his opponents and blue-collar work ethic have made him a fan favorite in Boston and beyond.

Sean O’Malley – Host of the Electric Sugar Sean Show

There isn’t a more entertaining and lively character in the UFC right now than Sean “Sugar Sean” O’Malley. When the UFC finally returned to Boston after a long, post-Covid hiatus, they delivered a main card full of explosive fights, bringing Sean O’Malley into the Octogon at TD Garden in August of 2023. The Ultimate Fighter alum stunned the crowd with an epic knockout of Aljamain Sterling, which made him the #AndNew Bantamweight Champion.

These fighters have brought the heat to our city and helped shine a spotlight on MMA in Boston. Each of them has made their mark in UFC history and contributed to the hype of the UFC in Boston. So, let’s raise a glass of Sam Adams to these cage warriors – they’ve earned it!
